The student should have
completed the assigned exercise in the Workbook before each class period
(with the exception of the 1st class, see Course Calendar).
Translation exercises may be done in English or in Chinese and should be
checked against various versions, although the point is really to be
able to justify your own translation of the Greek text.
Answers to the grammar exercises should be checked against Mounce’s Grammar.
Do not erase the incorrect answers that you’ve put in. Instead, simply cross
them out and write down the correct answers alongside the incorrect ones in
your Workbook. The Workbook will be submitted to the Instructor
· There will be an Oral Exam during the quarter. The times and signup will be announced in class. Each student will come to my office to recite the Greek alphabet and read an arbitrary Greek passage from 1 John 3 (about 6 full lines in UBS4). The exam will be graded according to the fluency of the reading and the correctness of pronunciation according to the standard given in class. A sign-up sheet will be posted later for the purpose.
· Given the amount of material to be covered, the pace of this course will be rather brisk. It is important that each participant understands what he/she is committed to. A new language can only be learned by constant exposure and practice. Both the learning and the learning experience will be greatly discounted if learning only takes place within the setting of the class gathering. Students are also encouraged to study and review in groups outside of class. However, each should work on his/her own exercises instead of relying on others to supply the answers.
1. Bill Mounce
Go and check out billmounce.com
for all the resources (free and otherwise) Bill Mounce posts there.
One of the best online resources for learning and review of basic biblical Greek is http://www.chioulaoshi.org/. The site has quite a lot of audio-video material on biblical Greek that follows the order of our textbook. The author is a former student of Bill Mounce. The site is actually part of an online course the author runs regularly, but browsers who do not want to enroll can benefit from quite a bit of it too.
For our first two classes, you could go directly to the page: http://www.chioulaoshi.org/BGreek/Lesson01/lesson01.html and click on the links under 第一課: 字母與發音. There 邱老師, speaking in Mandarin, tells you how to pronounce the Greek alphabet using what we now call the Erasmian pronounciation. This will give you a head start in our course. You will also find a link on the same page giving Bill Mounce’s reading of 1 John 1:5-2:5.
3. B-Greek Forum
同學亦可從Control Panel，選“Region and Language”，然後再進入“Keyboards and Languages”tab。
至於鍵盤的編排和如何輸入「變音符/重音符號（diacritical marks）」，可Google“Microsoft Greek Polytonic Keyboard Layout”下載相關的pdf文件。
